2010 Cider Saturday
November 20th, 2010

We will host our first Apple Cider Festival on the third Saturday in November.

We are teaming up with Fritz at Windy Hill Orchard to bring in unculled cider making apples from the mountains of NC.  With the assistance of the attendees, we will cull, crush and press the apples to extract the juice so we can make cider and cyser (cider & honey blend).

Very shortly, we will make available an opportunity to pre-order the juice so that you will be to make your own cider / cyser. We anticipate the price of the juice to be around $4 per gallon and most individuals will need either 6 gallons (to make 5 gallon batch) or 4 gallons (to make 3 gallon batch).

This is the tentative schedule of the days proceedings:

10:00 Gates will open. Arrive early and help us set up. Thanks.
11:00 Welcome and introduction to making cider.
  We will start the culling of the apples.
12:30 - 1:30 lunch:
Hamburgers and hot dogs will be furnished by Alternative Beverage.  We will be accepting donations that will go to a local charity. Everyone is encouraged to bring a covered dish, chips or soft drinks.
  Culling will continue as needed
  Crushing of the apples.
  Pressing the apples and extracting the juice.

Alternative Beverage will supply a cooker, food, paper plates, napkins, plastic ware, ice, water, tables & what ever is needed.

Attendees should bring:
lawn chairs,
sodas,
covered dishes such as baked beans, potato salad, slaw, chips and picnic foods.

Home brewers and wine makers should feel free to bring samples.

If you bring your fishing pole, don't forget your fishing license.

Bring the whole family, it will be fun
but please DO NOT bring pets.

If you plan to purchase juice at the festival, bring your pails or carboys for transporting. We will supply acid blend, nutrients, pectic enzymes and campden tablets additives to the juice participants at no charge.

Honey, yeast, pails  and carboys transport vessels available for purchase as needed.
